Newcastle ‘fancy’ making move for Burnley Sensational Star as they finally reached agreement to sign the veteran

Newcastle United is looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and the Magpies have already been linked with several players.

According to a report from The Sun, the Magpies “fancy” signing Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford but face strong competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Newcastle have Nick Pope as their first-choice goalkeeper but they are looking to add another quality player who can challenge him for the starting role.

Loris Karius is leaving Tyneside this summer, and doubts remain over Martin Dubravka’s future, as he may not accept a role on the bench.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper has been picked for the initial 33-man squad for the 2024 European Championship.

Chelsea are ready to make a bid in the region of £20 million for the young goalkeeper, and he could be tempted to stay in the Premier League after Burnley got relegated.

The Magpies have long been interested in Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who could leave the Gunners this summer. He barely played for Mikel Arteta’s side last season and should look to move elsewhere to kick-start his career.

In recent weeks, Newcastle have shown interest in signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. The 23-year-old goalkeeper is set to leave Los Che this summer, and the Magpies are one of the clubs vying for his signature.

Mamardashvili would cost in the region of £35 million, and as a result, Newcastle could look at alternative cheaper options. Trafford fits the bill.

He made 28 starts in the Premier League under Vincent Kompany and many feel that the stopper will come good with age. It makes sense for Newcastle to invest in Trafford as he could be a reliable back-up option.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are expected to complete two signings on free transfers, with Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and AFC Bournemouth’s Llyod Kelly expected to arrive shortly

Chelsea are set to splash even more money on young talent as they weigh up making a £20m move for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, according to reports.

The Blues are amongst a number of top European clubs looking to recruit a new shot-stopper, with Trafford a likely mover after Burnley were relegated to the Championship.

Trafford suffered a difficult first season playing in the Premier League after joining in a £19m transfer from Man City last year after his penalty heroics helped England’s Under-21s win the European Championship.

He was later dropped by Vincent Kompany – who is set to takeover at Bayern Munich – during the end-of-season run-in.

But Trafford coul leave the Clarets after just one season with Trafford viewed by Chelsea as their long-term goalkeeper, as reported by the Sun.
