Rivals gives the Ohio State football program a ridiculous transfer portal grade
The Ohio State football program wasn’t very active in the transfer portal when it was open after Spring ball finished. They added just one scholarship player. After the regular season ended they were much more active. They were able to get some really good players at that point.
Ohio State added perhaps the best safety in college football in Caleb Downs. He enters a secondary that is already one of the best in the country. The Buckeyes also got Quinshon Judkins from Ole Miss, a running back who has 29 rushing touchdowns and almost 2,800 career rushing yards in two seasons. He’s also on the cover of the new College Football video game
Those were the two best players that the Buckeyes got in the transfer portal, but not the only ones. They perhaps have gotten a new starting quarterback and a new starting offensive lineman. Apparently, that’s not enough to satisfy some people.
Rivals apparently isn’t impressed with the Buckeyes’ addition of players. They seem to think it wasn’t that good of an offseason for them. Take a look at the grade they gave them.
So adding two of the best players at their positions in the country equals a C-? That seems absurd. Ohio State added some players that help them at positions of need and some players to give them more depth. Adding Downs allowed them to move Sonny Styles to linebacker, a position with little experience.
Personally, I would give the Ohio State football program at least a B+ for their efforts in the portal. If they had added more offensive linemen. That’s still the weakest unit on the team. Had they gotten a couple more starting-caliber offensive linemen, they would have gotten a better grade.
The fact that Minnesota has the highest grade on this list tells you how absurd it is. Ohio State is still one of the best teams in the Big Ten.
