Ohio State’s Ryan Day talks former Alabama QB Julian Sayin

Ryan Day said Wednesday on National Signing Day that adding former Alabama quarterback Julian Sayin wasn’t something Ohio State planned on, but you won’t hear him complaining.

The Buckeyes coach told reporters adding the No. 1 quarterback in the class, per the 247Sports composite rankings, was a no-brainer.

“The Julian thing was not something that we planned on,” Day said, per Cleveland.com. “But when it became a situation that was available, we felt we could really enhance the room. So we did it.”

The Buckeyes also signed four-star Air Noland, a quarterback committed for months. However, when Nick Saban retired from Alabama, Sayin was on the move and Ohio State jumped at the chance to add his services.

“They’re just getting started,” Day said of both Noland and Sayin. “The fact you’re coming in mid-year now, it’s a little bit more normal. It allows everybody an opportunity when they come in the summer to not be a freshman anymore.”

Sayin’s decision to leave Tuscaloosa came less than 24 hours after the Tide secured a commitment from former Washington quarterback Austin Mack.

Sayin, from Carlsbad, California, was the No. 21 prospect in the class, per 247Sports Composite. Sayin was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in his home state, producing 28 touchdowns. Sayin also won the Elite 11 finals, the yearly showcase of the nation’s best high quarterbacks.
