Sheffield Wednesday now ‘interested’ in signing former Liverpool and Man Utd target on loan
Sheffield Wednesday are set to make further signings before the transfer window slams shut later this month.
The Owls have already brought in ten new additions to the club and were delighted by their contribution to the weekend’s hammering of Plymouth Argyle.
New midfielder Svante Ingelsson put on a particularly ‘tremendous’ display as Sheffield Wednesday looked very attacking on home soil.
Nathaniel Chalobah was absent from the match-day squad, leaving the Owls rather light in the defensive area.
Plymouth’s lack of threat meant it wasn’t an issue, but it now looks like Danny Rohl has identified this as a weakness and is now looking to add another defensive midfielder to his ranks.

Sheffield Wednesday ‘interested’ in Brighton’s new signing
According to Express journalist Charlie Parker-Turner, Wednesday are ‘interested’ in signing Malick Yalcouye on loan.
He wrote on X: “Understand Malick Yalcouye is set be sent out on loan by #BHAFC. Midfielder has impressed in pre-season but a decision has been made for him to spend the upcoming campaign elsewhere. Luton Town, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday are all interested.”
The 18-year-old joined Brighton & Hove Albion from Swedish club IFK Goteborg last month, having made eleven appearances in the Allsvenskan last season.
He had previously attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Southampton, but opted to move to the Amex Stadium.
According to The Athletic, Yalcouye is capable as a No 6 or No 8, is good on the ball and likes to get forward.
On the midfielder, Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler said: “”He is a talented midfielder with lots of potential to develop into a top-class player.
“He’s excited about this next stage of his career and we’re looking forward to helping him progress.”
It was initially expected that Yalcouye could try to push through into the match-day squad at Brighton, but looks to pick up regular minutes elsewhere instead.
Can Malick Yalcouye push ahead of Nathaniel Chalobah?
His potential could be very exciting for Rohl and could give him further options in midfield, especially if Chalobah may struggle for fitness.
The likes of Ingelsson and Barry Bannan look like they are going to be two of the first names on the team-sheet this term, but the final place is certainly up for grabs.
If the Seagulls saw Wednesday’s performance at the weekend then they could be intrigued to let their new signing move to Hillsborough and develop further.
It certainly seems like an exciting pursuit for the Owls, but they do face competition from clubs who will most definitely be pushing for promotion and could give Yalcouye some valuable experience at the top of the Championship.
