Sunderland Dealt Yet Another Blow In Pursuit Of Beale Successor
Sunderland have been dealt yet another blow in their hopes of signing a new head coach as Pascal Jansen has been appointed at a club in Hungary, it has been confirmed.
The transfer window opens tomorrow, but the Black Cats are still yet to find a permanent successor for Michael Beale in the dugout at the Stadium of Light despite the former Queens Park Rangers boss being relieved of his duties four months ago after merely 12 games in charge
Mike Dodds was handed the reins on an interim basis until the end of the campaign while the board looked for a replacement for Beale. However, having exhausted a lengthy list of candidates, the Wearside outfit are no closer to announcing their new manager.
A new name that had cropped up on the club’s list in recent weeks is the ex-AZ Alkmaar head coach Pascal Jansen, who left his post with the Dutch giants back in January, having boasted a 59% win ratio during his time at the club. It was reported that Sunderland were hopeful of convincing Jansen to move to the North East of England despite interest from clubs in Europe.
Unfortunately, Sunderland’s hopes of securing Jansen as their next head coach have now become obsolete as Hungarian champions Ferencvaros have announced the appointment of the 51-year-old merely weeks after lifting the league title under Inter Milan legend Dejan Stankovic. The former Serbia international recently resigned from his post in Hungary to become the boss at Spartak Moscow.
Once again, it’s back to the drawing board for the Black Cats’ hierarchy and owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus as they scramble to find a new head coach before pre-season commences in just a few weeks’ time.

Jansen was one of a number of names on a lengthy list of candidates that Sunderland had. However, considering the job he did with AZ Alkmaar, consistently getting the side into Europe, it was always going to be difficult to bring him to England’s second tier.
Nevertheless, the likes of ex-Hull City manager Liam Rosenior and Will Still are also out of the running to become the next manager at the Stadium of Light following recent developments so it’s difficult to see who else the club have lined up to finally replace Beale.
