It was reported that Sunderland were hopeful of convincing Jansen to move to the North East of England despite interest from clubs in Europe.

Jansen was one of a number of names on a lengthy list of candidates that Sunderland had. However, considering the job he did with AZ Alkmaar, consistently getting the side into Europe, it was always going to be difficult to bring him to England’s second tier.

Nevertheless, the likes of ex-Hull City manager Liam Rosenior and Will Still are also out of the running to become the next manager at the Stadium of Light following recent developments so it’s difficult to see who else the club have lined up to finally replace Beale.
