Orioles add 2-time All-Star pitcher at trade deadline

The Baltimore Orioles added more players on Tuesday to help them for their postseason run.

Early on Tuesday, the Orioles acquired left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers in a trade with the Miami Marlins. Then later in the day, Baltimore beat the deadline and acquired relief pitcher Gregory Soto in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Baltimore sent pitchers Moises Chace and Seth Johnson to the Phillies in return for Soto.

The 29-year-old Soto was an All-Star closer for Detroit in 2021 and 2022. The Phillies acquired Soto in a trade with the Tigers in 2023, though he hasn’t fared as well for them.

Baltimore’s bullpen will now include Soto in addition to Craig Kimbrel and Seranthony Dominguez.

White Sox trade Eloy Jiménez to Orioles, Paul DeJong to Royals and Tanner Banks to Phillies

CHICAGO – Eloy Jiménez hasn’t showcased the power he’s accustomed to displaying this season. But the designated hitter will get the chance to revive his output in a stretch run with the Baltimore Orioles. The Chicago White Sox traded Jiménez in a deadline-day move Tuesday afternoon. Jiménez is slashing .240/.297/.345 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 65 games. He has been sidelined on a couple of occasions in 2024 because of injury, missing time from April 1-15 with a left adductor strain and May 22 to June 23 with a left hamstring strain. Injuries have often been an issue for Jiménez. He was on the injured list eight times with the Sox since April 2019.

The Sox will receive minor league right-hander Jarold Rosado in return. The 22-year-old had a 1.85 ERA and four saves with 45 strikeouts in 39 innings at Class A Columbia.
