Two Veteran will be waiting for a big move from another NFC team after contract extension with the Cowboys was delayed
It’s already the end of May and the Dallas Cowboys haven’t made a decision on the stars that light the team.
Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are entering the final year of their contracts with the franchise and their futures are still undetermined.
The quarterback has entered into an agreement with the organisation to put the brakes on and postpone talks about a possible renewal.
On the other hand, Parsons and Lamb are in the fifth-year option of their rookie contracts and are waiting for a possible long extension with a good amount of money.
Lamb and Parsons absent from OTAs
Since the start of OTAs, the Cowboys wide receiver has not reported to the team’s facilities. It looks like some kind of holdout.
Prescott has even spoken about missing his team-mate’s presence at practice: “That’s my guy. Not many people out there more swaggier, cooler, better player, than that guy. So obviously you’re gonna miss him, miss having him around.”
America’s Team’s signal-caller added: “But I’ve been in this situation, it’s business, business is business. He’s got my support and I know the locker room’s support. That’s part of it. Hopefully he’ll get all his and everything he deserves and is worth.”
On the other side, the pass-rusher has already made it clear that he will be meeting with the squad this week. He’s been doing individual training sessions with the aim of getting his mind, spirit and body in the right place.
What Lamb may be waiting for to extend with Dallas
On Friday’s edition of NFL on ESPN, insider Jeremy Fowler revealed that Lamb seems to have greater pretensions for not having extended his contract with Dallas yet.
“CeeDee Lamb, a couple of things in play here. He could be waiting on Prescott. Dallas might need to prioritize a quarterback first.”
However, Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson is yet to formalise a massive deal with the franchise.
In turn, the Cowboys receiver ends up ‘getting more expensive’. This wait may be deliberate.
“Also CeeDee Lamb appears to be waiting on Justin Jefferson. Really, the whole league is waiting on him to get done: he could be the highest paid non-quarterback in the league when it’s all said and done for Minnesota. So if he’s making $34 million a year(and) you’re CeeDee Lamb, you don’t wanna jump out yet, you wanna wait for him to do that and then circle back with Dallas.”
There are so many questions surrounding the future of the Dallas Cowboys as the 2024 NFL season continues drawing closer. Jerry Jones decided to keep the band together for one more season after their brutal Wild Card loss to the Green Bay Packers. However, major changes could be on the horizon.
Many believe that Dak Prescott will be gone if the Cowboys fail to win the NFC East and make a deep playoff run. Obviously, Mike McCarthy would be fired from his head coaching position as well.
