Tottenham set to land £42.6m bid for striker who plays just like Robert Lewandowski as the deal was completed
Ange Postecoglou is in the market for a centre-forward this summer as he looks to assemble a squad capable of challenging finishing inside the Champions League spots.
The North Londoners narrowly missed out last term, finishing two points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa, so the onus will be to go one better.
With that said, Postecoglou has now identified the striker that he feels will take his side up a level and it’s thought a substantial bid is being prepared.
Tottenham set to land £42.6m bid for Dominic Solanke
According to Caught Offside, Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to submit a £42.6m bid for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.
The North Londoners have already met with Solanke’s representatives and now a formal offer is expected to arrive in the coming days.
The 26-year-old remains an option for Arsenal and Liverpool but it appears Spurs are now in pole position to land his signature.
TBR reported in June that Solanke has a £65m release clause in his contract that’s only active for the top six clubs.
It remains to be seen if Bournemouth are willing to negotiate lower than his clause.
Dominic Solanke similar to Robert Lewandowksi
Solanke is of a very similar profile to Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski according to FBref data.
The former Liverpool striker is a physically imposing centre-forward that excells at link-up play but most of all, he’s a clinical finisher.
Solanke netted 19 Premier League goals last term, only Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland scored more.
With less than two weeks to go until the new Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur have work to do in the transfer market.
Ange Postecogolou has welcomed some very exciting 18-year-olds to the club this summer, the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray – two midfielders with exceptional potential.
However, it’s up for debate whether the duo will significantly raise the level of Postecoglou’s first eleven immediately.
Although Dejan Kulusevski has lauded Bergvall’s potential, he recently admitted that his compatriot will need patience and time.
Gray does have a more immediate claim for first team minutes, but will also need careful treatment after making such a big leap in his career.
And in a summer in which Tottenham have let Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave, Spurs could end up looking a little light on experience in the middle.
Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur will once again be competing for Postecoglou’s starting roles, but one more addition would seem appropriate.
However, it doesn’t seem as if Postecoglou’s ‘dream’ target, Chelsea’s Conor Gallager, will be that man.
