Michael Beale in talks with players as he looks to strengthen squad

Jenson Seelt shows off gruesome knee scar in Sunderland injury message on Instagram

Jenson Seelt has showed off his gruesome knee scar after the Sunderland man underwent surgery earlier this year.

With Jong PSV, Seelt showed his class as a centre-ack who loved to get forward with the ball at his feet, though with Sunderland, the Dutchman would play in multiple positions.

Seelt was often deployed on the right side of defence, as well as in his natural centre-back position, and he was starting to show real promise.

Little has been heard or said about Seelt since his injury. But he’s been working hard behind the scenes ahead of the start of pre-season at the Stadium of Light.

Seelt has posted on Instagram, showing himself in training and rehabilitation, also posting a picture of a lengthy scar on his knee following surgery.

Seelt posted training pictures with the caption ‘no ups without downs’, and Sunderland replied via their official Instagram account, writing ‘keep pushing’.

The likes of Romaine Mundle commented ‘so good’, and Jay Matete replied ‘facts’.

It was a slow start to life in England for Seelt but he eventually grew into the Championship and was becoming a regular starter under Mike Dodds.

Seelt started four games in a row from the end of February stretching into March, before picking up a knee injury during the 4-2 defeat at Southampton in March.

The club then announced that Seelt would require surgery to correct the injury, with his return planned for the end of 2024.

Can Jenson Seelt return to his best with Sunderland
Seelt will certainly need to be patient as he works towards his eventual return to action with Sunderland.

And there’s no denying that such a severe injury at a young age is tough to come back from, both physically and mentally.

For Seelt, the timing of his injury was unfortunate too, given the fact that he was starting to cement his place in the starting XI.

But his post on Instagram shows us that he’s working hard towards his return. It also suggests that Seelt is boasting the right, positive mindset during what is surely a tough time.

Whether or not he returns to his very best remains to be seen; it’s always difficult to come back from such major injuries.

But with the right people around him and the right attitude, he’ll give himself every chance of making a return to action with Sunderland during the 2024/25 Championship season.

A reporter has aimed a veiled dig at Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, over his recent manager statement.

Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, and perhaps more so sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, are under growing pressure to finally replace Michael Beale at the Stadium of Light.
