Max Fried to return to the mound on Monday as Braves battle Padres | Yardbarker

MLB insider delivers great news on the Max Fried injury front

With all of the bad injury news the Braves have endured in 2024, this latest report from Jon Morosi is a breath of fresh air. The Braves are not expected to acquire a starting pitcher ahead of the trade deadline, in large part because they believe Max Fried‘s injury is not serious.

The Braves have a lot of issues to fix over the next few days, but the pitching staff — as long as Max Fried is able to return — is not one of them. This has been the best team in terms of run prevention, led by Max Fried, Chris Sale, and Reynaldo Lopez. Spencer Schwellenbach, coming off a brilliant 11 strikeout performance against the Mets, has also helped more than solidify the back end of the rotation.

With that being said, the offense can use help at a multitude of areas. With Michael Harris still out for a few weeks, a case could be made that the Braves need to add at least three outfielders. The entire bench can be upgraded, and something should probably be done regarding the middle infield as well.

Orlando Arcia has been an offensive zero for most of the season, and Ozzie Albies is out for at least seven more weeks. In Albies’ place, top prospect Nacho Alvarez hasn’t quite looked like he’s ready to be an everyday player at the major-league level. It’s a small sample size, so that could change, but some sort of insurance in case it doesn’t is necessary. Expect a bunch of moves to come from the Braves over the next few days.

Max Fried to return to the mound on Monday as Braves battle Padres | Yardbarker

SEATTLE (AP) — Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout will not play Wednesday night for Triple-A Salt Lake and is leaving his minor league rehab assignment after one game to be re-evaluated in Southern California.

Trout began a rehab stint Tuesday with Salt Lake but exited after just two innings because of soreness in his surgically repaired left knee.

Before the Angels’ game Wednesday in Seattle, manager Ron Washington said Trout reported he was feeling better, and Washington hoped the three-time MVP would be able to serve as the designated hitter for Salt Lake that night.

But later on Wednesday, the Angels announced that Trout would not be in the lineup and was returning to Southern California.

Trout went on the injured list April 30 with a torn meniscus after hitting .220 with 10 homers and 14 RBIs in 29 games. It’s the latest in a long line of injuries for the Angels superstar over the past several seasons.
