The Los Angeles Dodgers were one of the more active teams across baseball during the trade deadline. The front office shored up some holes along the roster and a few players have already made an impact.

However, one of the bigger names that Los Angeles acquired has yet to play for the team. Utility player Tommy Edman is still recovering from offseason wrist surgery, while also dealing with an ankle issue while doing a rehab start with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Edman was acquired by the Dodgers in a three-team trade between the Cardinals and Chicago White Sox. Los Angeles is hoping that Edman can join the team soon and it seems like the wish may come true.

Timeline Revealed For Tommy Edman To Make Rehab Assignment With Dodgers

Insider Mike DiGiovanna has reported that Edman will begin his rehab assignment at Triple-A on Saturday. He will likely play a few games and if deemed healthy, will then join the Dodgers lineup.

The Dodgers long were interested in landing Edman and are expected to use his versatility when he joins the team. Edman can play multiple positions around the basepaths, giving manager Dave Roberts much to work with.

Last season with the Cardinals, Edman hit .248 with 13 home runs and 47 runs batted in. He was a valuable piece to the St. Louis lineup and now will hope to give the Dodgers a boost in the stretch run of the season.

Los Angeles has seen a large lead in the National League West race disappear and now leads by just 2.5 games over the San Diego Padres. The hope is that Edman can join the team sooner rather than later and Los Angeles can see what their trade deadline acquisition can do.

Walker Buehler is set to make his much-anticipated return to the Dodgers rotation, possibly during the upcoming series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Following a promising rehab performance where Buehler effortlessly dominated with his fastball, the right-hander’s addition could not have come at a better time. With the Dodgers leading the tight NL West race, Buehler’s return is a significant boost.

Tommy Edman, recently snapped up in a trade, is about to start his rehab assignment. This marks a crucial step in bringing another versatile player into the Dodgers’ lineup, which could be pivotal as they cling to a slender lead in the NL West. Edman’s ability to play multiple positions allows Dodgers flexibility down the crucial stretch.
