Pirates Minor League Report: Two Homers for P.J. Hilson
Pirates’ affiliates continued their winning ways, claiming three of the four games they played on Friday thanks to excellent starts from Po-Yu Chen and Patrick Reilly along with P.J. Hilson’s third multi-homer game of the season.
The Indianapolis Indians outlasted the Louisville Bats 7-6, leaping out to a seven run lead early that helped them weather the massive comeback.
Double-A Altoona defeated the Harrisburg Senators 4-3, riding seven innings from Po-Yu Chen (who allowed just two runs, one earned, striking out eight batters). Jase Bowen doubled, walked and added the play of the game, robbing what would’ve been the go-ahead home run in the ninth with a leaping grab at the wall.
P.J. Hilson clubbed two homers for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, helping them to a 6-4 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds. Nick Cimillo added his 16th home run of the season, while Patrick Reilly struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings.
Bradenton suffered the lone loss, falling 7-3 to Fort Myers after another quick exit from Mike Burrows.
Here are some of the top performances amongst the Pirates’ affiliates to start the weekend.

Mets hope Edwin Diaz’s return boosts bullpen vs. Pirates
New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz is set to return on Sunday following a 10-game suspension for violating MLB’s policy on foreign substances, providing much-needed relief for a beleaguered bullpen. The Mets continue a four-game series against the host Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday after giving up seven home runs in Friday’s 14-2 loss.
Bryan Reynolds and Rowdy Tellez each homered twice, including one grand slam apiece, as the Pirates tied a franchise record for homers in a game. Reynolds recorded the sixth career multi-home run game of his career and tied a career high with six RBIs. Tellez has homered four times in his last five games for Pittsburgh, which is battling the Mets and others in a crowded NL wild-card race.
