Former Astros’ Star Could Have Contract Become Nightmare For His Team

After once being a star with the Houston Astros, this player could have his contract be viewed as disastrous in the

One of the ways that the Houston Astros have had so much success this past decade is because of their ability to find talent and select them with their draft picks.

They’ve been able to build a roster full of stars through their pipeline, resulting in two World Series championships and multiple division titles.

Perhaps nobody was more notable than Carlos Correa when the Astros selected him with their No. 1 overall draft pick in 2012 at the age of 17

He made a quick ascension, winning Rookie of the Year in 2015 at the age of 20 and was a two-time All-Star and one-time Gold Glover while with Houston. Correa also became one of the best postseason performers of all-time and was a major reason why they won the World Series in 2017.

Yet, despite that, the Astros let him walk after the 2022 season and he signed with the Minnesota Twins.

After opting-out of his deal one year in, he re-signed with the Twins after having two $300-plus million offers pulled by the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants because of injury concerns.

Correa eventually inked a six-year, $200 million contract with Minnesota that has vesting options which could push it to $270 million.

But, because of those injury concerns, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report thinks that the ex-Houston star could have his contract turn into a nightmare for his new team.

“First and foremost with Carlos Correa, there are the medical history concerns … But that’s why this already felt like a possible eventual nightmare from the moment the contract was signed,” he writes.

For what it’s worth, in two years with the Twins, he has played 271 of 324 possible games, putting up a slash line of .261/.339/.433 with 40 home runs, 129 RBI and a 6.9 bWAR.

The 29-year-old still seemingly has plenty of time left in his career, but those injury concerns stemming from a surgically repaired lower right leg will always exist.
