Jose Mourinho is set to be announced as the new manager at Fenerbahce following his sacking by Roma earlier this year

Jose Mourinho is set to return to football management and it turns out Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has had a big role to play in that decision. The Portuguese manager was sacked by Roma earlier this year and has been out of work since that January decision, with many expecting the ex-Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United boss to move to Saudi Arabia after links to a number of jobs in the Saudi Pro League.

However, he now looks set to move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, with reports in Italy and Turkey suggesting he has agreed a two-year deal at the club. According to Turkish outlet Haber, the deal was struck with the help of Hull City owner Acun Ilicali.

The Tigers supremo is of course a huge celebrity in Turkey and also has close ties at Fenerbahce, as well as a friendship with Mourinho. The report says he has been a key figure behind the scenes in enabling the deal to get done, with Mourinho tasked with returning the club to the top of the Turkish league after a decade long wait for a league title.

Ilicali and Mourinho are set to meet up again on Saturday at the Champions League final, with the City owner expected to fly in for the big game at Wembley, while Mourinho has been confirmed as a guest on TNT Sport’s coverage of the showpiece. The City boss is then expected to head to Hull after the game with his search for a new manager at the MKM Stadium set to be concluded by the arrival of Tim Walter.
