The Tigers secured their first draw in 18 league games at home to West Brom

Liam Rosenior believes Hull City’s battling point in their 1-1 draw with West Brom on Saturday will stand them in good stead for the remaining 12 games of the Championship season, which he hopes, will end with the Tigers securing a play-off spot.

In a tight MKM Stadium battle on Saturday lunchtime, City gradually assumed control and took a 35th-minute lead when Fabio Carvalho rattled in from the edge of the box, but that advantage was wiped out when Rosenior’s side failed to deal with a corner and Darnell Furlong glanced.

That equaliser came just before the half-time interval and cancelled out the momentum City had gained from Carvalho’s thumping strike.

In a tight, even contest of few clear-cut chances, both sides hit the post late on with Jaden Philogene hitting the woodwork before Adam Reach capitalised on a Regan Slater error to do the same at the other end. But neither side could find a breakthrough and the spoils were shared at the end of a hectic week on the road, which saw City claim three wins from three including that eye-catching result at Southampton.

“I wouldn’t say I’m frustrated,” Rosenior told Hull Live. “I know West Brom are a really good team as well. I don’t look at it in terms of 10 points for 12 games. I just want to win every game we play. I thought we put ourselves in a great position against a really organised, well-structured team and these games against fellow top-six rivals, they come down to such fine margins.

“I think, for our learning again, as a group, it’s a new group. We got seven players in January, young players – it’s a great experience for them to learn what it takes in terms of concentration in vital moments, moving forward for the rest of the season and if we take those lessons on board, I think we’re in a really, really good place.

“I felt that they came and they worked really, really hard in terms of their defensive shape, they knew they’d have to be well drilled. They play without a striker, which everyone’s talking about at the moment, with (Grady) Diangana and (Jed) Wallace’s pace and (Tom) Fellows and Mikey Johnson. They’re all quick lads and they wanted to score in transition. I felt we dealt with the threat really well.
