Wrexham are in the market for new signings this summer as Phil Parkinson prepares for life in League One after back-to-back promotions.

Wrexham have progressed from the National League to League One at rapid pace and are now preparing for life back in the third tier.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have backed the club admirably and will need to do so once again this summer.

Wrexham need a number of signings in order to compete League One level and room has already been made.

For instance, three centre backs have been let go with Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden and Jordan Tunnicliffe all moving on.

Their contracts have not been renewed and Wrexham will surely bring in a number of centre backs this summer to bolster Phil Parkinson’s back line.

Wrexham target Marvin Ekpiteta says goodbye

There has only been one considerable rumour regarding a potential centre back signing.

Reports last week suggested that Wrexham are interested in snapping up Blackpool defender Marvin Ekpiteta.

The 28-year-old defender – standing at a huge 6ft 4in tall – may be a familiar name to some Wrexham fans having turned out against the club in his Leyton Orient days.

Ekpiteta has spent four years with Blackpool but is now moving on having been told that his contract won’t be renewed.

Wrexham seem keen to present Ekpiteta with a chance to stay in League One and he has now sent a message to Blackpool fans.

Ekpiteta noted his stats in a Blackpool shirt; 12 goals in 143 games across four seasons with the Seasiders.

The centre back added ‘it’s been a pleasure’, saying a final goodbye to Blackpool alongside a highlight video from his time at the club.

Blackpool fans flooded the comments, stating that they would love to see Ekpiteta shine with his next club.

That club could be Wrexham, potentially paving the way for a return to Bloomfield Road as part of Parkinson’s back line next season.

Wrexham have joined Blackpool in League One, so Tangerines fans may find seeing Ekpiteta in action against them a little difficult to stomach.

It’s clear that Ekpiteta was a popular figure at Blackpool and we would back him to achieve similar status if he joins Wrexham this summer.

Available on a free transfer and with plenty of League One experience, Ekpiteta could be a smart addition for Wrexham and a much-needed signing after allowing Tozer, Hayden and Tunnicliffe to move on.
