Five Ike Ugbo alternatives that Sheffield Wednesday could sign this summer

Sheffield Wednesday are eager to re-sign Ike Ugbo this summer.

Ike Ugbo joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan in January with fairly low expectations, having scored only four goals for Cardiff in the first half of the season.

However, the striker went onto net seven times and played a key role in their survival.

Ugbo will now return to parent club Troyes, but reports have claimed that the Owls are eager to bring him back permanently.

However, with Troyes said to have paid over £2.5 million for him in 2022, they are unlikely to sell him for cheap.

His form in the Championship is likely to attract a lot of interest too, so Wednesday could face stiff competition for his signature.

Danny Rohl will be desperate to bring in a new No.9 this summer though, so here are five alternatives he could look at.

Five Ugbo alternatives that Sheffield Wednesday could sign

Jay Stansfield – Fulham

The striker has only made a handful of appearances for Fulham, but his two loan spells away from the club have been hugely successful.

Stansfield claimed 16 goal contributions for Exeter City during the 2022-23 season, before he earned himself a move to the Championship with Birmingham.

The 21-year-old netted 12 goals for the Blues, despite their relegation.

Stansfield could be loaned to the Championship once again this summer, however it is thought that he rejected Sunderland last year due to it being too far of a commute back to the English capital.

Kieffer Moore – Bournemouth

Kieffer Moore was in high-demand in January, but eventually chose to join Ipswich Town on loan.

The striker scored seven goals in 18 games, playing a key role in their promotion to the Premier League.

Moore still seems unlikely to earn minutes at Bournemouth, so could be on his way out again this summer.

The Welshman does reportedly earn around £15,000-per-week though, and Wednesday would be competing with half the Championship for his signature.

Tyrese Campbell – free agent

The ‘dangerous‘ 24-year-old becomes a free agent after leaving Stoke City this summer.

Campbell scored 36 goals and provided 21 assists in 161 games for the Potters, but had struggled for form and game-time this season.

Rangers were reportedly eyeing a move for the striker once his contract expired, while it is likely a number of EFL clubs will be too.

Aaron Connolly – free agent

Aaron Connolly looks set to leave Hull City on a free this summer, just one year after joining permanently.

The striker has scored ten goals in 33 games for the Tigers, but had fallen down the pecking order recently.

Connolly seems like a risk-free move for the Owls, who will look to spread their funds across the squad.

Tom Cannon – Leicester City

A number of EFL clubs were chasing after Cannon when he left Everton last summer, having scored eight goals on loan at Preston.

He eventually signed permanently for Leicester, but a lengthy injury limited him to only 13 appearances.
