Texas wins recruiting battle for in-state 2025 cornerback

Head coach Steve Sarkisian has done a terrific job of recruiting during his time in charge of the Texas Longhorns, and the trend is continuing on the 2025 recruiting trail.

Texas’ latest commitment is Caleb Chester, a consensus three-star cornerback recruit from Missouri City, Texas.

Chester received an offer from Texas in May of 2023 and he’s been one of the staff’s top cornerback targets ever since. This is also a notable recruiting win for the Longhorns because Texas A&M, TCU, Arkansas and LSU were on the losing side of the decision.

In-state recruiting is crucial in a state like Texas, so keeping Chester away from the Aggies and Horned Frogs is a big win for the Longhorns.

Ultimately, it was the Texas experience combined with the chance to be taught by cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph that really won over the 3-star.

“It was really just ‘Why not Austin?” Chester told 247Sports ahead of his decision. “It was the biggest school, I want to major in business and they got the best business school in the country. It’s close to home and I’m still in Texas. I’m getting coached by coach Joseph. He’s a great guy that’s got a great resume. I’m also being coached by coach Sark. He’s one of the winningest coaches in all of college football right now and the other things, they were just great. There was really no reason for me not to go to Texas.”

According to the 247Sports Composite, Chester is the No. 71 cornerback in the 2025 class. Texas now has 11 2025 commitments.
