Another Braves top prospect earns a promotion
The Braves farm system isn’t regarded very highly, but the guys they have at the top levels continue to impress. There have been loads of promotions in recent weeks, including a couple to the major-league level in Hurston Waldrep and Spencer Schwellenbach. The arms, in particular, have been outstanding, but the latest promotion belongs to one of the Braves top position player prospects, Drake Baldwin.
The 23-year-old catcher was a third-round pick in 2022 and showed a lot of promise last season, blasting 16 homers with an .844 OPS across three levels (A+-AAA).
Baldwin hasn’t been on the same type of tear in Mississippi as he was last season, hitting just .244 with four homers, good for an OPS of .650. However, he does have 10 RBIs in his last six games, including a home run and a double.
With Travis d’Arnaud and Sean Murphy in the fold, Drake Baldwin isn’t going to make an impact this season, but d’Arnaud is getting up there in age. It might not be long before Baldwin becomes Murphy’s running mate behind the plate in Atlanta.
