Jaguars Cornerback Tyson Campbell Signs Contract Extension with new sensational star Cornerback set to be included

The Jaguars on Tuesday continued an offseason trend of solidifying their future, this time addressing the defensive backfield.

Tyson Campbell, a starting cornerback for the Jaguars the past three seasons, on Tuesday signed a contract extension with the Jaguars that will keep him with the organization for the foreseeable future. Terms were not disclosed.

“Tyson is a young, talented player who is an integral part of our defense and core member of our locker room,” Jaguars General Manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. “He is a consummate professional on and off the field and we are confident that his best lies ahead. We have consistently messaged the importance of extending our core players and this is another step forward in honoring that commitment.”

The Jaguars announced the extension Tuesday morning.

“I’m blessed to stay in Jacksonville and thankful God is allowing me to continue building something special with my brothers on the field and in the community,” Campbell said. “I want to thank the Jaguars for making my NFL dreams come true three years ago and for still believing in me today.”

Campbell, the No. 33 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, played collegiately at the University of Georgia. He has started 42 of 43 career games played in three NFL seasons, missing six games last season with a lingering hamstring issue.

Campbell has six career interceptions with two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries with a fumble return for a touchdown. He also has 204 tackles, 146 solos, with six tackles for loss.

The Jaguars earlier this offseason extended the contracts of edge defender Josh Allen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence – like Campbell, premium selections in recent drafts. Allen was the No. 7 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft and Lawrence was the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jacksonville Jaguars Stat of the Week: Tyson Campbell's Prowess

It’s hard to build a team when you’re the Jacksonville Jaguars. A team that isn’t even 30 years old yet, the team has struggled to become a hot-spot destination despite being in the state of Florida. The other two teams there, the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, don’t have the same issues the Jaguars have. For a variety of reasons, some fair and others not, the Jags can’t land major free agents.

So they put a major focus on re-signing their players. That’s why on July 23, 2024, the Jaguars signed cornerback Tyson Campbell to a massive contract. Campbell agreed to a new four-year deal, worth $76.5 million, that will include $53.4 million in guaranteed cash. It’s a massive contract for the 24-year-old, who’s entering the final year of his rookie contract.
