Out-of-contract Plymouth Argyle star wanted by Middlesbrough and Coventry City
Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway is a target for Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers, a report from The Sun has said.
Plymouth Argyle brought Galloway to the club in the summer of 2021, signing him following the expiry of his contract at Luton Town. The Zimbabwe international has had injury problems over the course of his career but this season, he’s caught the eye at Home Park.
Galloway has managed to lock down a starting spot under Ian Foster after returning to action in November, starting regularly on the left-hand side of the back three. However, his deal with the Pilgrims is up this summer, and interest from elsewhere is growing.
The Sun reports that Championship trio Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers are all keen on Galloway.
Plymouth Argyle are yet to offer the 27-year-old a new contract, potentially leaving the door open for their second-tier rivals to swoop in.
One to hold onto
Galloway has proven himself as an influential player at Plymouth Argyle since his return to fitness. He’s held down the starting spot in the back three but also offers his services as a left-back or wing-back having played there earlier in his career.
If he isn’t to be tied down to a new deal by the Pilgrims, it seems he’ll have opportunities to stay in the Championship. Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers could all be attractive options, especially given the upward mobility of the first two especially.
After such a strong break into the side under Foster, you’d have to think Argyle will do what they can to hold onto Galloway. Time will tell just how his situation pans out though, as the decision lays in his hands with interest growing from elsewhere.
Until then though, Galloway will be focused on helping Plymouth in their relegation fight. They currently sit 15th in the Championship table, five points clear of the drop after beating Middlesbrough at the weekend.
