Roma Facing Decision About Loanee Ahead of Deadline
Roma have only a couple of days to decide whether to keep Angelino permanently. The deadline to exercise their €5M option to buy falls on May 30th. Eventually, it’d be paid in three yearly installments, Corriere dello Sport informed.
If the Giallorossi didn’t pull the trigger, they’d be unlikely to bring him back in a different deal. The fullback’s price tag would increase since he has suitors in the Bundesliga.
Angelino joined Roma on loan in January but planned to set roots in the Italian capital. He and his camp agreed to a five-year contract in principle ahead of the transfer. The two teams had a gentleman’s agreement to make the transfer permanent automatically if the Giallorossi punched their ticket to the Champions League. They failed to do so since they finished sixth and Atalanta surpassed Bologna, which won’t open another slot for Italian sides.
The 27-year-old has logged 20 appearances since coming over, providing his lone assist in the season finale. He has alternated with Leonardo Spinazzola. The Italian veteran might be on his way out. His contract is about to expire, and he’d have to accept a pay cut to re-up.
Our Take on Roma and Angelino
He’s been fine but not superb. They better confirm one between him or Spinazzola. It’d be tough and more expensive to add two specialists in the same role.
