Five injured, one banned: Leeds United won’t be happy as Coventry’s pre-Ipswich team news emerges
Leeds United need Coventry City to get a result tonight against Ipswich Town in order to give them the best chance of automatic promotion on Saturday.
No matter what happens tonight in Coventry City’s home clash with Ipswich Town, the race to join Leicester in automatic promotion will go down to the final day.
Leeds’ battering at the hands of QPR opened the door for Ipswich to take full control, but they couldn’t leapfrog the Whites on Saturday, as they could only draw at Hull City.
Leeds praying for huge Coventry favour tonight
A report from the Coventry Telegraph doesn’t make for good reading from Leeds’ perspective, though, hoping for a strong showing from the home side.
The hectic schedule in April has been tough on most teams in the league, but Coventry’s FA Cup run leaves them seriously fatigued and having five players on the sideline through injury with another banned for tonight in ex-Leeds man Liam Kitching, after his red card on Saturday.
Stranger things have happened in the Championship
Coventry have won one league game in the month of April, losing every other meeting other than one – no prizes for guessing who they beat.
Add to that woeful run of form their clearly sapped energy reserves and injuries piling up, it’s all aligning for Ipswich to get promoted this week.
However, the Championship has a very peculiar knack of making fools out of those that generate assumptions on what should happen.
Many would have thought we’d cruise to promotion from the international break, but we’ve dropped off a cliff – thankfully Ipswich have made it a fair contest by doing likewise.
