No Extension Talks Have Taken Place With Astros’ Superstars According to GM

It doesn’t seem like extensions are coming for the Houston Astros’ superstar players this offseason.

The sentiment surrounding the Houston Astros sure has changed following the contract agreement between them and Josh Hader.

And for good reason.

Hader is the most dominant reliever in the game and is coming off a season where he reminded people just how good he is.

With departures and injuries thinning out the Astros’ bullpen, they needed to make a move, and they landed the biggest whale on the market.

All systems are go for them to chase another World Series championship.

That’s what the team and organization are focused on in 2024.

However, when looking to the future, there are some concerning developments with Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve hitting free agency once the season ends.

Houston has stated they would like Altuve to be an Astro for life. They haven’t explicitly said that about Bregman, but he’s been an important part of this franchise and seeing him play for another team would feel weird.

But, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, general manager Dana Brown told reporters at the facility there has been no extension conversations with either Altuve or Bregman

This could turn into a dangerous game they’re playing.

Both players will be some of the most prized free agents on the market and other teams would love to take them out of Houston. In the past, owner Jim Crane has avoided handing out megadeals, even to some of his best players like George Springer, Carlos Correa and Gerrit Cole.

There’s a chance he won’t be willing to hand them out here either.

Another interesting note is that their star right fielder, Kyle Tucker, said that he and the organization did not have any extension talks either when they had their arbitration salary exchange.

Maybe something can get worked out with all three players before Spring Training, or maybe even during the season.
