Nick Krall will head the Reds Baseball Operations Department - Redleg Nation GM Makes Bold Declaration as Spring Training Stands Six Weeks Away

The Cincinnati Reds have been active this offseason, signing several pitchers and one big slugger on the free agent market, but GM Nick Krall has said that the team is likely done with big moves.

The Cincinnati Reds have been extremely active in free agency this offseason, but they just might be done, according to General Manager Nick Krall.

Per C. Trent Rosencrans of ‘The Athletic.’

Krall also said he doesn’t foresee any big trades happening, either.

This is noteworthy for several reasons:

1) The Reds still seem to have a need for a reliable starting pitcher, and they appear to not be going after one. They signed starting pitcher Frankie Montas, but he’s a question mark after having missed nearly the whole season in 2023. They also signed swingman Nick Martinez, who can start, but hasn’t proven it for a full season yet. Furthermore, the Reds young arms like Andrew Abbott, Hunter Greene, Brandon Williamson and Nick Lodolo all come with injury concerns and/or innings limits.

The team was connected to veterans Sonny Gray and Tyler Glasnow this offseason but ultimately struck out on both. They clearly wanted a reliable option that could stabilize the rotation, but they evidently feel OK with their collection of bodies instead.

2) The Reds may not trade infielder Jonathan India now. It was thought to be a foregone conclusion that the Reds would trade the former Rookie of the Year winner, especially after signing Jeimer Candelario, but if no big moves are coming, they may be content to keep him and play musical chairs with their collection of infielders instead. They currently have India, Candelario, Noelvi Marte, Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Matt McLain.
