The Bruchsal-born man started his coaching career in the youth set-ups at Karlsruher and Bayern Munich before landing the top job at Holstein Kiel in 2018, where he guided them to a 6th place finish in Bundesliga.2.
His work at the Holstein-Stadion earned him the Stuttgart job after just a year. However, he lasted only six months in that role.
Hamburg lured him back into the dugout in 2021 and his side finished 3rd in both of his full campaigns in charge there. However, they were beaten in the play-offs twice.
Walter was then dismissed in February and has since been weighing up his options.
