Nottingham Forest ready new £15m move after Rangers and Jack Butland transfer news at Ibrox

Nottingham Forest have turned their attention towards signing Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone after a failed move for Rangers number one Jack Butland, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon page on Wednesday (31 January) that Forest are ready to make a £15million bid for 30-year-old Johnstone.

It is understood that Palace could let the former West Brom goalkeeper leave Selhurst Park for the right price after he dropped behind Dean Henderson in the pecking order.

Nixon claims Forest are readying a bid for Johnstone after a bid for Rangers star Butland failed to materialise.

BBC Sport journalist Tom English reported on Tuesday (30 January) that the Scottish Premiership will not currently entertain any offers for the Ibrox 30-year-old.

Good.

Rangers cannot afford to sell Butland this month. He’s easily been the most consistent – arguably the best – player at Ibrox this season.

He’s easily one of the few success stories of Michael Beale’s time as the Gers manager after not only filling the big void left by Allan McGregor but possibly doing even better than Greegsy.

Butland is the best goalkeeper in Scotland and has proven in his performances for the Light Blues this season that he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the whole of the United Kingdom.

If he wasn’t playing against teams like Livingston and St Mirren each week, he’d have a shot at getting into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championships in Germany in the summer, you’d imagine.

Forest definitely could have turned some heads at Ibrox if they offered the £15million that they’re looking to stump up for Johnstone, who is also a good English goalkeeper.

But thankfully, they’re not doing that and Rangers aren’t going to be left with a tough decision to make.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have a verbal pact in place to complete a post-winter transfer.
