Football news 2024: Coventry City manager Mark Robins slammed for FA Cup incident

Things have got to change’ – Coventry City vs Blackburn Rovers prediction

Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City meet on Tuesday night in a clash between two sides enduring differing starts to the 2024/25 campaign.

Blackburn Rovers travel south to face a Coventry City side winless in the last five Championship games. They’ve lost three of those too, including last time out against Leeds United.

The Whites cruised past the Sky Blues at Elland Road with Wilfried Gnonto, Jayden Bogle and Joel Piroe bagging. Mark Robins’ side were simply outclassed as the hosts cruised to all three points.

A return of only five points in the first seven games has Robins’ men sat 21st at this early stage, just above the relegation zone.

Blackburn Rovers on the other hand couldn’t have dreamed off a better start.

After West Brom were beaten by Sheffield Wednesday, John Eustace’s side are now just one of two Championship teams left yet to taste defeat this season alongside Sheffield United. Such form has them sat in a highly impressive 2nd place with 15 points taken from seven games.

It was another good day at the office on Saturday as Rovers defeated QPR on home turf. Captain Lewis Travis and summer signing Danny Batth were on the scoresheet in another impressive display.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

“Things have got to change for Coventry City. For the past few seasons they’ve been an underdog in the fight for a play-off spot, but the players they have on the books now are certainly capable of fighting for those positions, and arguably even higher.

“Robins has got a serious amount of credit in the bank, so questions about his position are premature, but improvements are a must.

“Blackburn Rovers couldn’t be in a much more different position. Eustace has the Ewood Park faithful absolutely buzzing, and it’s translating in the players’ performances too.

“As such, I can’t see anything but another result for Blackburn. It might be close and I wouldn’t be all that surprised if it was to end level, but I’ll say Rovers win 2-1 in another strong display from this season’s early surprise package.”

“Coventry City have started slowly again and need to start picking up some points soon or the pressure could start to mount on Robins.

“Blackburn Rovers, on the other hand, have been very impressive so far this this term under the guidance of Eustace.

“They are 3rd in the table and could even go top if they were to win on Tuesday and Sunderland and West Brom drop points in their games.

“Rovers are full of confidence and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them win here. However, I’m going to go for a draw.”
