Crystal Palace could submit bid for £8m defender compared to John Terry if Marc Guehi leaves
Crystal Palace already have a plan of action in mind if Marc Guehi leaves Selhurst Park this summer.
The Crystal Palace No.6 is hot property after an outstanding UEFA Euro 2024 campaign with England in Germany.
Real Madrid are even said to be admirers of Guehi after his stunning efforts at the tournament.
So, who do Crystal Palace have in mind if the man from Abidjan departs this summer? Let’s take a look…
Crystal Palace could bid for Jake Clarke-Salter
A story from the Mirror (print version, page 70, Sunday 28th July) claims that Crystal Palace could make a move for Jake Clarke-Salter if Marc Guehi leaves Selhurst Park this summer.
The QPR No.6 is also a target for Wolves after Gary O’Neil lost Max Kilman to West Ham, with those at Loftus Road valuing the central defender at a sum of £8m.
Furthermore, Clarke-Salter was wanted by Rangers in 2023, according to the Mirror, but the man from Carshalton is now on the radar of Wolves and Crystal Palace.
The report comes amid rumours of Arsenal wanting to sign Guehi as well as Real Madrid.
Manchester United are also believed to be keen on signing Guehi this summer.
The 24-year-old only has 24 months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park, so if he refuses to sign a new deal, Crystal Palace may be forced to sell for a lesser fee next summer, by which point he will be in the final 12 months of his deal and at risk of being lost on a free transfer.
Dougie Freedman could sign John Terry 2.0
If you know little about Clarke-Salter, a comparison to a more recognised player may be welcomed.
Interestingly, the 26-year-old has previously been compared to John Terry.
It was the Chelsea legend himself who made the comparison.
Terry told the Evening Standard: “Jake has a great attitude. I remember watching him a couple of years ago being in control of the game and a really vocal player. He reminds me of myself.”

Be sure to keep an eye out for developments involving Clarke-Salter if Guehi departs, as he seems to be Dougie Freedman’s No.1 choice as a replacement.

It was a second half of the season that had its challenges, with plenty of injury concerns, but with a new style of play, there was a fresh look to Crystal Palace.
Many will be hopeful that the form can continue into the Premier League, with a draw against Charlton being backed up by a 6-3 win over Crawley.
There was a return for Cheick Doucoure, who came back from injury but has since suffered another issue in pre-season.
