Sheffield Wednesday to sign ‘great’ striker that has recently been approached by Leeds United

Sheffield Wednesday are close to completing a move to sign a striker that was recently the subject of an approach from Leeds United, with talks ongoing for a loan-to-buy deal.

Wednesday survived relegation back to League One at the first attempt last season largely thanks to the work of German manager Danny Rohl, who has since impressed as a pundit at Euro 2024 with ITV Sport.

Rohl is now building a side that will look to finish a lot higher than their meagre 20th position this time around, and they have certainly been busy. Rohl has already made nine signings at Wednesday so far.

They include Max Lowe, Jamal Lowe and Nathaniel Chalobah. Interestingly, they failed to permanently sign Ian Poveda on a free from Leeds, Poveda signing a three-year deal with Regis Le Bris’ Sunderland.

Sheffield Wednesday close in on striker after Leeds approach

Leeds fans may remember the name of Sory Kaba, a striker that was on the radar at Elland Road last summer. The Whites were one of six Championship clubs interested in Kaba, but he joined Las Palmas.

That move has not gone to plan, scoring just one goal in 20 games. Las Palmas survived the drop but little of that was anything to do with Kaba and he is expected to depart the Spanish side in the coming weeks.

Africa Foot claim that Wednesday are now in talks to sign the “great” striker this summer on a loan-to-buy deal from Las Palmas. But it is claimed that Wednesday are not the only side to look at star Kaba.

The report states that since April, Kaba has been the centre of interest from a number of Championship and English clubs. Birmingham City, now in League One, are said to have taken a look at the forward.

As have Hull City and Watford, given that Kaba starred in his one and only spell in England’s second tier. In a half-season spell at Cardiff in the Championship, he scored an impressive eight goals in 17 games.

Indeed, Africa Foot say Leeds have made an approach since April to sign Kaba but now the striker is set to sign for Wednesday initially on loan for Las Palmas with a permanent option included in the loan deal.

Leeds made £2.5m bid for central defender compared to Jerome Boateng this summer

The middle of Leeds United’s defence looked like it would be an area that required strengthening at the beginning of the window but now, it looks like one of Daniel Farke’s strongest positions.

Following defeat to Southampton, it looked as if Joe Rodon would join a Premier League club while Liam Cooper would go, leaving only an injured Pascal Struijk and Charlie Cresswell, and skipper Ethan Ampadu.

But fast forward until now and Leeds are well-stocked at centre-back, despite the exits of both Cresswell and Cooper. Rodon has signed permanently at Elland Road, while Struijk has returned from his injury.

What has come as a surprise is the return of Max Wober when it was expected the Austrian would go. James Debayo has impressed during pre-season, featuring in all three pre-season friendlies so far.
