What happened to old Wrexham manager Dean Keates? Boss told he was 'on way out' after takeover - Daily Star

Wrexham midfielder Elliot has signed a new contract

ELLIOT LEE was criticised by outsiders for dropping into non-league but the playmaker believes he has been fully vindicated because lots of footballers would love to play for Wrexham now.

Lee came through the youth ranks at West Ham United before featuring in the Football League for the likes of Luton, Oxford and Charlton so it was seen as coup by Reds’ supporters when Phil Parkinson signed the 29-year-old in the summer of 2022.

Although some people felt Lee should still be playing in the EFL, his stay in the National League was short-lived as he helped Wrexham clinch the title in his first season at The Racecourse and the Reds have gone from strength to strength in 2023-24, challenging at the top end of League Two.

Lee, like star striker Paul Mullin, has been recognised for his efforts by signing a new contract keeping him in north Wales until the end of the 2026-27 campaign and there is no place he’d rather be.

“We both took a bit of criticism dropping out of the league from an outside point of view,” said Lee.

“But if you actually speak to the manager and speak to the owners, you could see there’s a pathway for a lot of success here.

“Maybe taking one step back was the best option for us in our careers at that point and it has proved to be that way.

“If you ask a lot of players now, they will want to come to Wrexham, and even managers and coaches.

“It is a great place to be and a great place to play. It was probably one of our better decisions.”

The Racecourse is definitely home-sweet-home for Lee who is leading scorer this season with 13 goals.

“When you find a home like me and Mulls have here, you shouldn’t take it for granted because it doesn’t always happen in football,” he added.
