As both clubs continue to regain their stature in the Premier League, Arsenal and Newcastle are increasingly in competition with each other.
Not only on the pitch, but also in the transfer market, where Arsenal have pursued few Newcastle stars of late.
Arsenal were interested in Alexander Isak this summer – who is in talks to sign a new contract that will include a release clause.
Bruno Guimaraes has a similar clause in his new deal, and Isak wants the same.
That being said, Arsenal and Newcastle may be about to compete against each other for a winger who is thriving in La Liga in the transfer windows to come.
TBR Football understands that both clubs are now keeping a close eye on Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino, a 21-year-old who already has 13 caps for Spain.
Arsenal and Newcastle scouts seriously impressed by Spain’s Yeremy Pino
Both Arsenal and Newcastle were in the market to sign a new winger in the summer.
Eddie Howe’s side failed to land one – an ode to their frustrating summer as a whole.
Although, Arsenal secured an excellent deal for Raheem Sterling on deadline day, loaning the four-time Premier League winner from Chelsea.
That being said, both clubs are continuing to work on potential options moving forward and have made trips to check on Pino.
Both sets of scouts have been incredibly impressed by the ‘remarkable’ talent, who was previously thought to have a release clause of around £67m.
Pino has been attracting attention from Europe’s elite ever since he emerged for Villarreal’s first team, forging his international career in quick fashion too.
And along with Arsenal and Newcastle, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery remains a firm fan of Pino, having played a role in his progress to date.
Yeremy Pino would solve a big issue for Arsenal and Newcastle
In terms of his profile, Pino could prove to be the perfect understudy for Bukayo Saka at Arsenal in the long-term.
The Spaniard is predominantly a right-winger, explaining why Newcastle may also see him as an upgrade on Miguel Almiron.
Newcastle were hoping to sell Almiron this summer, a move that ultimately didn’t come to fruition.
Instead, Howe will seemingly now play Anthony Gordon out of position on the right to accommodate Harvey Barnes cutting inside on the left, which isn’t quite ideal.
There will be a lot of competition for Pino in the summer, but perhaps both Arsenal and Newcastle could be at the front of the queue.
