Crystal Palace lose another player as Will Hughes picks up injury

Well, the Eagles have experienced some rotten luck when it comes to injuries this season.

Michael Olise is set to be sidelined for around two months after a setback with his hamstring issue.

Eberechi Eze is also currently out of action – along with another England international in Marc Guehi.

Now, Hodgson has confirmed that Hughes is “struggling” with a problem as well.

The man from Croydon said: “Hughes was injured. He’d been limping for about ten minutes and we were hoping he would continue and be able to run it off, but he was struggling, mobility wise.”

So far this season, the 28-year-old has made 22 appearances across all competitions, picking up three yellow cards.

Time for David Ozoh or Naouirou Ahamada to shine

While news of another injury is not ideal for Crystal Palace, it has at least occurred in a position where Hodgson has alternatives – two of those being David Ozoh and Naouirou Ahamada.

It was the latter who received the nod to replace Hughes on Monday – despite Ozoh shining in cameos against Manchester City and Sheffield United.

Regardless of who Hodgson chooses to replace Hughes – should the injury keep him sidelined, that is – both Ozoh and Ahamada have been starved of chances this season, and therefore will surely be eager to impress, so it could be a blessing in disguise for Crystal Palace.

Be sure to keep an eye on the Weybridge-born midfielder’s situation, as Hodgson should be able to give an update in his press conference later this week.
