Dalton Rushing homers twice for Tulsa & reportedly promoted to Triple-A
Rushing has 7 home runs in his last 11 games, and has played left field in addition to catcher and DH. Also reportedly headed to Oklahoma City with him are shortstop Alex Freeland and pitcher Edgardo Henriquez.
The weather is heating up, and so is one of the Dodgers’ best prospects.
Player of the day
Dalton Rushing slammed two home runs in Tulsa’s win Sunday over Springfield, hitting a two-run shot in the second and a solo blast in the fifth.
Rushing was the designated hitter on Sunday, giving him two games each at DH, catcher, and left field during this series. He homered from all three positions this week against Springfield, and has a convenient seven home runs in his last 11 games.
That was a hell of a way to go out in Tulsa for Rushing, who will reportedly be promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Tuesday’s start to the week, per both Bruce Kuntz at Dodgers Digest and Fabian Ardaya at The Athletic.
Ardaya also reported the promotions of shortstop Alex Freeland and triple-digit-throwing reliever Edgardo Henriquez from Tulsa to OKC as well.
It will be the second promotion this season for Freeland, and the third for Henriquez, who missed all of last season after Tommy John surgery and started this year in Low-A Rancho Cucamonga.
Across three levels thus far this season, Henriquez has a 2.91 ERA in 40⅓ innings, with 70 strikeouts and 19 walks. His strikeout rate is an eye-popping 42.4 percent on the season, and was 33.8 percent in 16 appearances in Double-A.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Alan Trejo had three hits, including a home run in Oklahoma City’s win over the El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres).
Kody Hoese also homered for OKC. Eight of nine starters had at least one hit, and the only one without a hit, Hunter Feduccia, drove in two runs.
Justin Wrobleski had fives across the board in his first start back since getting optioned to Triple-A, allowing five runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts. He was pulled after 101 pitches, one out shy of completing five innings.
Ryan Brasier struck out two in a scoreless inning in his fourth rehab game for Oklahoma City.
Double-A Tulsa
Rushing supplied most of the power, but Yeiner Fernandez also hit a solo home run in the Drillers’ win over the Springfield Cardinals.
Alex Freeland walked twice, stole two bases, and scored twice out of the leadoff spot. He also made this nifty stop in the hole and throw at shortstop.
High-A Great Lakes
Three runs in the fourth inning was enough thanks to strong Loons pitching in a win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Twins).
Second baseman Sam Mongelli singled home the go-ahead run in the fourth, then stole a base and scored what proved to be a much-needed insurance run
