£37m Wolves responds to transfer speculation amid Burnley and Ipswich Town interest for winning the race to sign the Ace
Wolves reported transfer target Jake Clarke-Slater has addressed the rumours about him potentially leaving QPR this summer.
Earlier this week it was reported that it will cost Wolves and the five other teams interested in him from anywhere between £5m to £7m to secure his services. Gary O’Neil’s side hold an interest but so do Celtic, Burnley, Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town, according to the reports as well as Stoke City.
The 26-year-old has been a key member of QPR’s squad that secured Championship survival. He played 33 times in the Championship this season, keeping 10 clean sheets as the Hoops retained their second tier status.
Championship survival has been secured, and now Clarke-Salter has spoken of ambitions of reaching the Premier League with the West London club. He did not entirely rule out a departure, but did state his happiness at Loftus Road.
Speaking to Football League World, he said: “When I left Chelsea I was 24, I’m 26 now. I’m now trying to build my own legacy outside of Chelsea and trying to build up my career and hopefully progress a lot with QPR.
“The ambition for me personally is to be a Premier League player eventually, something I believe I have the capability to do. Hopefully, I can do that with QPR, the club is one the up and there are some exciting times ahead.”
He added: “I don’t have Twitter or anything so I don’t see any of the rumours, people might send it to me and stuff but I wasn’t really interested in anything at that point, it was just about securing safety of QPR and playing as well as I can.
“Whatever happens in the summer, we’ll see. I don’t have a crystal ball but I’m really happy at QPR and hopefully, we can have a good season next year.”
Daniel Farke said he made no mistake loaning out Poveda, and that the club have a decision to make in the summer – of course the Leeds boss will be vague whilst their fate is still uncertain, but uncertainty is what the player will have had enough of.
A full international attacking player proven in the Championship should be alerting most clubs at that level – a move to Burnley or Luton should they come back down could see Poveda challenge for promotion whilst playing regular football if he hits the ground running.
Should he go to Sunderland, Poveda will expect to be a regular starter and could make an impact in the division’s youngest squad, should talisman and top goalscorer Jack Clarke get a Premier League transfer.
