Sunderland now winning race to sign ‘clever’ free-agent who just rejected Premier League side
Sunderland are back in business after returning to pre-season training this week.
Regis Le Bris has clearly given a good first impression to the squad, with Chris Rigg set to sign his first professional contract after meeting him.
The Frenchman will be tasked with transforming a struggling, inexperienced team, while working with Kristjaan Speakman to bring in some much-needed additions.
Le Bris will be well aware of the club’s lack of goal-scorers and will be desperate to bring in a new striker if he is to be given any chance of guiding Sunderland to the play-offs.
The Black Cats haven’t been linked with too many players so far, but one striker who has continuously been on their radar for most of the year is Divin Mubama.
The ‘clever’ forward is wanted in England and across Europe after rejecting a new contract at West Ham.
Sunderland closing in on a new striker
It was recently reported that Mubama was ‘leaning towards’ a move abroad, however it now looks like he could be on his way to Wearside.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Sunderland are in pole position to sign the 19-year-old this summer.
The report claims that Mubama is wanted in both Germany and France, while Daily Mail previously claimed that clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn made loan bids for him earlier this year.
Should Black Cats be excited about Divin Mubama?
Sunderland fans will be sick of bringing in young players after their recent disappointment in the transfer window, but Mubama could be different.
West Ham were eager to keep hold of him, after he racked up 12 appearances with the senior squad last season – including one start in the Europa League.
With Mubama regularly making the match-day squad for the Irons, it surely suggests that he is more than capable of making an impact on the division below.
Speakman surely won’t target Mubama as the club’s only attacking addition, but if Sunderland can send a couple out on loan, then signing the youngster alongside an experienced striker could be great business
