TRANSFER UPDATE: After the departure of two regular Players who were preferred in the Brighton transfer talks, Lincoln City is expected to sign a sensational star player from Leicester City. However…

Michael Skubala meets the media

Five Players That Sealed the Interest As Lincoln City Make This Summer Transfer Deal A Necessity Ahead of Summer Blockbuster

You know how we love a speculation article. We’ve been putting them out for seasons now, and sometimes, we even get one right.

We were the first outlet to name Michael Skubala as a possible Lincoln City head coach. We’ve got players right in the past as well, notably Bruno Andrade and Tom Pett.

Now, without sounding a bit arrogant, that has normally been me, but this is a bit different. This time, we’ve let Chris Laming loose on Wyscout, armed with nothing but data and his own in-built desire to apply it to all things football. What happened next is the stuff of legends.

I was still getting emails with Word documents attached at 1 am, on a school night. I had a couple of ideas of my own, and when I put them to him, he’d already looked at both and included one, whilst he had a compelling argument for not including the other. Basically, he went into nerd heaven and I fear he may not be ready to come down any time soon.

He’s selected five players here that he feels would be good, solid signings for City. However, this is only the start – he’s got a list longer than your weekly shopping. These are not names just plucked off Twitter or plagiarised from reputable sites either – they’re his opinions, backed up by numbers and our needs.

If you enjoy a bit of a journey into players we might sign, then you’re in for a ten-minute treat right about now.

Lincoln City manager Michael Skubala has admitted the club may struggle to keep hold of midfielder Ethan Erhahon this summer.

The Imps agonisingly missed out on a place in the League One play-offs yesterday afternoon after going down 2-0 to champions Portsmouth at the LNER Stadium. Beginning the day in sixth place, Lincoln knew that they had to match Oxford United‘s result to extend their season. However, the U’s secured a 2-1 win away at Exeter City to move to fifth as Barnsley could only muster a 1-1 draw with Northampton Town.

It was heartbreak for the East Midlanders, who had enjoyed an excellent second half of the campaign to put themselves in contention. Yesterday’s reverse was only their second loss in their last 20 outings.

Work is already underway ahead of next season, where Lincoln will be hoping to build on their seventh-placed finish. It is expected to be a busy summer at Sincil Bank, with key stars such as Alex Mitchell and Joe Taylor returning to their parent clubs after a successful loan spell.

There could also be interest in a number of first team stars. Clubs will have taken note of their dramatic upturn in fortunes over the past few months and there is an expectation that there may be some enquiries over the summer break.
