Sheffield Wednesday dealt rare plot twist in race to sign key summer transfer target
Sheffield Wednesday now face a new and unexpected pitfall in the race to sign one of their key summer transfer targets.
Sheffield Wednesday and manager Danny Rohl are still keen to add to their nine summer signings.
The Owls kick off their 2024/25 Championship season in August, with Sheffield Wednesday vs Plymouth Argyle being the first date in fans’ diaries.
Before that, Sheffield Wednesday play Leganes in Liam Palmer’s testimonial at Hillsborough this weekend.
After that, Wednesday have a week to try and bring in another new player or two, with a new striker looking like the clear priority right now.
Sheffield Wednesday are linked with Sory Kaba right now; it’s been reported this week that an unnamed British club has had a bid accepted for Kaba at Las Palmas, with the bid totalling £1.3million.
Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday remain interested in Ike Ugbo following his impressive loan spell last season.
But a deal for the Canadian may prove too costly, and perhaps too complex for Sheffield Wednesday.

Latest on Sheffield Wednesday pursuit of Ike Ugbo
Sheffield Wednesday have seen a bid rejected for Ugbo already this summer, with reports suggesting that the Owls won’t exceed the £2.5million mark for the Canadian international.
Now, there’s another facet to the move, with Troyes having been reinstated to the French Ligue 2 following the bankruptcy of Bordeaux, who were subsequently relegated to the French third tier.
Troyes, despite relegation from Ligue 2 last season, have now been reinstated to Ligue 2 because of Bordeaux’s bankruptcy and demotion, and their stance on Ugbo’s future may now drastically change.

What next for Sheffield Wednesday target Ike Ugbo after Troyes reinstated to Ligue 2
Being a Ligue 2 instead of a French third tier side certainly makes matters different for Troyes where the future of Ugbo is concerned.
Ligue 2 status surely boosts his transfer vale slightly, whereas being a French third tier side makes it difficult to negate sizeable transfer fees due to their lowly league status.
And for Ugbo too, Troyes playing in Ligue 2 next season may make matters different. Ugbo may be less reluctant to stay at the club for next season, and try his hand in the French second tier after impressing in the English.
So this latest update could certainly spell even more troubled waters for Sheffield Wednesday, who appear to be hitting a bit of a snag in their search for a new no.9 this summer.
