Reported Sunderland striker target Alexandre Mendy has already dropped a transfer hint about his future
Caen striker Alexandre Mendy has already cast doubt over his future following four years with the French club.
Reports in France have claimed Sunderland have submitted an offer for the 30-year-old forward, who scored 22 goals for Caen in Ligue 2 last season. Mendy has two years left on his contract at Caen but has hinted he could leave Stade Malherbe this summer.
“I was already in the same situation last year, there was a project that was ongoing and still is. I think I made the right choice to play one more season at Stade Malherbe.”
Despite a 3-0 win over Valenciennes two months ago, Caen finished sixth in Ligue 2, missing out on a play-off place by one point. Saudi Arabian side Al-Riyadh SC have also been credited with interest in Mendy, who wants his future resolved quickly this summer.
Ahead of the Valenciennes match, Mendy added: “I am focusing first on the last match, but after that, it is certain that if I were to leave, I would like to be in good conditions straight away and arrive early enough to prepare my family and adapt to the new environment that is offered to me.”

Sunderland Star Wanted After £21 Million Bid Fails
Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham is a wanted man this summer and it seems as though Italian giants Lazio are set to re-ignite their interest in the talented midfielder, according to reports.
Despite enduring a difficult campaign last time out, finishing 16th in the Championship, merely seven points above the relegation zone, the Black Cats have not been in much of a rush to complete any transfer business since the market opened in mid-June.
Prior to the appointment of former Lorient boss Regis Le Bris, the Wearisde outfit confirmed the arrival of goalkeeper Simon Moore who recently left Coventry City as a free agent after three years with the Sky Blues. As a result, young shot-stopper Nathan Bishop was sent out on loan to League One side Wycombe Wanderers.
Nevertheless, the only other piece of business done by Sunderland this summer has been signing ex-Preston North End captain Alan Browne following his departure from Deepdale despite being offered a club-record deal by the Lilywhites.
Much more work needs to be done behind the scenes to get the Black Cats ready for the new campaign and to avoid a repeat of last season. However, the club are currently being linked with more player exits than new arrivals.
Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that Serie A side Lazio are preparing to go back in for 18-year-old midfielder Bellingham this summer after giving up on their pursuit of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood. The Biancocelesti were rumoured to be interested in signing the youngster a few months back but no official contact has been made between the two parties.
