Hull City are playing some good stuff under Liam Rosenior and that’s been recognised across the league

Hull City’s impressive passing game sets them apart in the Championship, ranking third in pass completion rate behind Southampton and Leicester City.

Despite their strong passing game, Hull City struggles to convert their opportunities into goals, currently sitting 11th in the goal-scoring rankings.

Hull City’s recent January additions, including loan signings and experienced striker Billy Sharp, have strengthened their case for a place in the Championship play-offs.

Hull City have been one of the Championship’s most entertaining sides to watch as they embark on a play-off chase under Liam Rosenior – and one stat stands out to suggest they are deserving of their league table position.

Having finished 15th and 19th in their previous two Championship campaigns, it’s been eight years since they finished in the top half of the second-tier – and that season resulted in promotion thanks to Mohamed Diame’s Wembley wonderstrike against Sheffield Wednesday.

The good times have been long awaited on the east Yorkshire coast, and Rosenior is doing his best to bring the club back up to the Premier League after almost a decade away. And there is one defining stat that the former Fulham defender has manufactured to get Hull playing like promotion contenders.

Hull City’s Championship season so far

Hull began the season relatively strongly, losing just one of their first nine games and being as high as fourth following an impressive 3-1 win at Stoke City in late September.

Some mediocre form followed, but the Tigers haven’t dropped out of the top half ever since the second game of the campaign and by beating the likes of Leicester, Preston, Sunderland and more, it’s a clear sign that the Tigers can progress in the future – though they will have to turn some of their losses into draws at the bare minimum.

With a decent home record of seven wins in 16 and seven wins from 15 in their away fixtures, it’s almost one win for every two games for the Tigers this term – which is play-off form, relatively speaking.

Why Hull are excelling in one key area in the Championship

WhoScored.com have listed the highest passing percentages in the Championship, and Hull are right in the mix with those at the top of the division in that regard.

Automatic promotion favourites Southampton are in the lead, with an outstanding 89.9 per cent pass completion rate, which ranks them way ahead of league leaders Leicester City, who boast an 88.8 per cent ratio themselves.
