Darvish and Machado delivers as the San Diego Padres triumph over the Cincinnati Reds 6-4

Yu Darvish secured his first victory of the season, pitching five scoreless innings after returning from the injured list, while Manny Machado smashed a three-run double to lead the San Diego Padres to a 6-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night, breaking a five-game losing streak.

Darvish looked strong on the mound, allowing only three hits and no walks while striking out three batters.

“It was all about stopping the losing streak,” Darvish said. ” I felt good about my performance. My pitches were working well, and I had good control.”

San Diego, which has struggled at home this season, particularly at night, improved its record to 7-12 at home.

Padres manager Mike Shildt praised Darvish’s performance, saying, “We needed that pitching performance.”

The Reds’ manager, David Bell, was ejected from the game after a dispute with the plate umpire in the seventh inning.

In the fifth inning, the Padres scored four runs to take a 5-0 lead, with Machado’s double being the highlight of the rally.

“We created opportunities tonight, which we haven’t been doing much lately,” Machado commented on the team’s offensive performance.

Despite loading the bases in the first inning, the Padres couldn’t score, but they capitalized on their chances later in the game. Reds starter Nick Martinez pitched five innings, allowing five runs (three earned) and six hits.
