Philadelphia Eagles add another backup for Jalen Hurts
After trading for a quarterback on March 15, the Philadelphia Eagles added another quarterback on Saturday, with the NFL team announcing it had signed Will Grier to a one-year contract.
Neither Grier nor Kenny Pickett, acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers, are going to unseat incumbent Jalen Hurts.
Grier comes aboard after spending the final three weeks of the 2023 season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Grier also was on the active roster of the New England Patriots and the practice squads of the Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals during the 2023 season without appearing in a regular-season game.
Grier entered the NFL from West Virginia as the 100th selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. He started two games for the Carolina Panthers as a rookie but has not played in an NFL regular-season game since. Grier also was with the Panthers in 2020 and the Dallas Cowboys in 2021 and 2022.
A first-round draft choice in 2022, Pickett started 24 games over the previous two seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He became expendable when the Steelers signed Russell Wilson.

Hurts finished as the runner-up for the 2022 Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player Award. The former Alabama standout signed a five-year, $255 million contract extension with Philadelphia last offseason and was selected for the Pro Bowl Games after the 2023 season.
The Eagles have one other quarterback on their roster. Tanner McKee was a sixth-round selection by Philadelphia in last year’s draft, but he has not appeared in an NFL regular-season game.
