Spurs Trade Target Ideas: Pacers’ Andrew Nembhard An Option?
The San Antonio Spurs could be a team to watch at the trade deadline on Thursday if they want to start the process of building around rookie star Victor Wembanyama.
Of course, the Spurs have been known to be a bit unpredictable at the deadline over the years, so it isn’t a guarantee that general manager Brian Wright will strike up a deal.
But if the Spurs do decide to get involved, Bleacher Report listed Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard Jr. as a potential trade target.
“Nembhard may be too important to the win-now Indiana Pacers as a reserve playmaker and defensive try-hard,” Bleacher Report wrote. “Still, the Spurs have a peppering of good-not-great draft picks to peddle if Indy’s looking to restock its cupboard on the heels of the Pascal Siakam trade.”
This season, Nembhard has played in 37 games (16 starts) and is averaging 8.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists. A second-round pick by Indiana in 2022, he’s shown flashes of true stardom during his short time in the league.
Early in his rookie season last year, Nembhard finished with a career-high 31 points, eight rebounds and 13 assists in a 112-104 win on the road over the then-defending champion Golden State Warriors. He’s posted eight games of 10+ assists in his career and has six double-doubles.
In three career games against San Antonio, Nembhard has averaged 9.0 points and 4.3 assists.
