Nottingham Forest make big Nuno decision as talks planned amid clear ‘priority’
Latest Nottingham Forest news as head coach Nuno Espirito Santo aims to maintain Reds’ fine Premier League form
Nottingham Forest are reportedly ready to open contract talks with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo in the near future.
The Portuguese has done a remarkable job since taking charge of the Reds little more than a year ago. He steered the club to safety in the second half of last season and has now transformed Forest into a side challenging at the top end of the table.
Nuno signed a two-and-a-half-year deal when he replaced Steve Cooper at the helm in December 2023. According to TBR Football, the Reds are eager to tie down the 50-year-old to fresh terms.
The report claims it first emerged Forest were ready to offer Nuno a new contract “a few months down the road” back in October. It is said the club’s stance about opening talks with the Reds chief “in the coming weeks” remains unchanged.
Nuno is not the only key figure at the City Ground whose future Forest are keen to secure. Discussions have already taken place with full-back Ola Aina and striker Chris Wood about new deals ahead of their current ones expiring in the summer. TBR Football add keeping hold of both players and the head coach is a “priority” for the club.
The Reds started the new year second in the table on the back of a five-match winning run. They will be out to make it six victories in a row when they make the trip to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, January 6 (8pm kick-off).
Amid his team’s flying form, Nuno has been determined to remain grounded. However, he has said he wants fans to enjoy the journey as Forest aim to make the second half of the campaign as exciting as the first.
“We are enjoying. We are especially enjoying because our fans are enjoying with us,” he said after victory over Everton on Sunday. “Nothing changes. We cannot change. We have to realise that we haven’t achieved anything. We are competing in a very tough league and the next game is going to be even tougher, and it’s going to be that way until the end.”
