Nottingham Forest could sanction Anthony Elanga exit this month on one condition

Nottingham Forest will be in the market to do a number of pieces of business during the January window with the New Year now upon us.

Forest have been magnificent during the first half of 2024/25 and hold a lofty league position after 19 games of the current campaign.

Position 1 – 4 : Champions League
Position 5 : UEFA Europa League
Position 18 – 20 : Relegation

Forest have identified Kaua Elias as one possible target this month but the worry among supporters is perhaps nothing to do with which players will arrive at the club.

Chris Wood is being courted by two Serie A clubs, whilst Manchester City have expressed an interest in signing Ola Aina.

With Forest doing so well in the Premier League, it’s only natural that bigger clubs will be trying to poach players from the City Ground this month.

Although Evangelos Marinakis is very much an ambitious owner, he will be praying that he receives no offers for his star players during a transfer window that is notoriously difficult to buy in.

Forest could reluctantly accept Anthony Elanga bid

During the summer transfer window, Forest rejected a late advance from Newcastle to try and take Elanga to St James’ Park ahead of the deadline.

With the clock ticking, Forest managed to stand firm on a player who is valued at £50 million but that might not be the case during the January window.

According to The Telegraph, Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t want to lose Elanga but there is a realisation that the right offer could see Forest reluctantly accept a bid for the winger.

It would come at the worst possible team if Forest were to lose Elanga, with the former Manchester United man showing his best form of the campaign so far in recent weeks.

In the last four games, he’s scored three goals and claimed an assist with Forest claiming five wins in succession in the Premier League.

Season Preview: Nottingham Forest

Newcastle would likely retain an interest in Elanga given that current boss Eddie Howe is a huge fan of his and pushed hard to sign him in the summer window.

Forest must keep Elanga during January window

It would be a real blow if Forest made such a brilliant start to the season and then proceeded to let it unravel by cashing in on star players.

The likes of Murillo, Morgan Gibbs-White and Nikola Milenkovic are perhaps more important than Elanga but his brilliance shouldn’t be dismissed either.

At 22-years-old, Elanga has bags of potential and he’s showcased in recent weeks that he has what it takes to become a top player at this level.

It does feel somewhat unlikely that any club will push towards the £50 million that Forest craves for his signature and hopefully, that will see the winger remain at the club.

With the Reds now in a genuine push towards the European spots at the end of the season, it’s unlikely that any of the star players will be itching to leave the club.

Hopefully, that means that Elanga will remain at Forest for the foreseeable and the club continues to dismiss any enquiries for the player this month.
