Yankees Predicted to Swing Blockbuster Three-Player Trade for $200 Million Slugger
The New York Yankees lost Juan Soto to the New York Mets this offseason. They have added Cody Bellinger, Devin Williams, Max Fried and Paul Goldschmidt to try and replace him.
NorthJersey.com’s Pete Caldera predicted they would make a trade during the season to add another superstar. He predicted the Yankees would make this trade with the Minnesota Twins to land Carlos Correa:
Yankees receive: shortstop Carlos Correa Twins receive: infielder George Lombard Jr. (No. 3 prospect), right-handed pitcher Chase Hampton (No. 6 prospect) and right-handed pitcher Will Warren (No. 5 prospect)
Trading three top 10 prospects is what it would take to land Correa. The Yankees have Anthony Volpe penciled in at shortstop, but they would not let that get in the way of adding a player of Correa’s caliber. They would likely move Volpe to second base, which is also now a need for the Yankees.
Correa signed a six-year, $200 million deal with the Twins in 2023. Since entering the league in 2015, only two shortstops have hit more home runs than Correa: Francisco Lindor and Corey Seager.
Correa is a three-time All-Star, Gold Glover and Platinum Glover. Adding him to the Yankees would be a huge upgrade to their infield. Last season he played in just 86 games but slashed .310/.388/.517 with 14 home runs.
At the Winter Meetings, Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll Derek Falvey and general manager and president of baseball operations Jeremy Zoll stated that they are not trying to sell, but are rather trying to win. However, they did note that they will listen to calls for all of their players.
“And what we tell every team is: Listen, we’re open to being creative,” Falvey told reporters. “We can’t rule anything out before we hear it, no matter who the player is, and so we’ll just be respectful of their process and what they’re going through and try to kick some creative ideas around. It’s what led us to a Pablo trade, or something like that, at different junctures. So we have to stay open-minded to those things.”
