League One chairman drops another hint that Wrexham wage offer hijacked summer transfer
Wrexham beat Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon with Phil Parkinson picking up yet another home victory.
Wrexham started 2025 with a defeat, losing 2-1 away at Barnsley.
Fans have become used to seeing Wrexham fall flat away from home and defeat at Oakwell may not have surprised many.
Wrexham were back at the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday though and Phil Parkinson boasts an incredible home record.
This was a tight affair but Wrexham managed to grab the win with Steven Fletcher again finding the net.
Fletcher has scored off the bench in each of his last four home substitute appearances with Wrexham continuing to shine at the STōK Cae Ras.

Peterborough United chairman drops another Lewis Brunt hint
Wrexham’s win came against a club favourite with former midfielder Darren Ferguson in charge of the Posh.
Ferguson called Wrexham a ‘powerful team’ after the game with Parkinson building a team who can really battle.
Wrexham recruited well over the summer and one of the incoming deals left Peterborough frustrated.
Back in July, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony claimed Wrexham hijacked a Peterborough transfer.
MacAnthony noted that Wrexham offered the player – believed to be defender Lewis Brunt – around £3,000-a-week more in wages to strike the deal.
MacAnthony has now doubled down on those claims whilst speaking on Up The Poshcast on Sunday.
The Peterborough chairman suggested that a defender was on his way to sign for the Posh before another club came in and offered him £3,000-a-week more.
That certainly sounds like Brunt again with MacAnthony claiming that the defender was in the car on his way to Peterborough when Wrexham called.
“We’re competitive, are we paying the wages that maybe Wrexham are throwing around for some players? No, but we’re not five grand a week off it, we’re maybe two grand a week off it,” said MacAnthony.
“I’ll give you an example. We had a player in the summer we’d tracked since the end of May, he was a centre half. We did the deal in June, we worked on the deal for four weeks, the player was travelling down, the contract was agreed, he was coming out for a medical, it was all done.
“A club came out of nowhere and, basically, we were paying him – let’s just say, for arguments sake – £3,700 a week and this club came in and just said ‘we’ll give you £6,700 a week’ as he’s in his car coming to us.
“It happens, I’m not crying about it, I’m not moaning about, I’m explaining to you that some of the things that happened have never happened before and that’s happening now all the time,” he added.
Peterborough’s loss is Wrexham’s gain
This is just the way of the game and MacAnthony knows that, hence his stance on not being too upset.
Clubs are hijacked for signings on a regular basis and agents are always working for the best deal in the background.
In this case, Wrexham came out on top but Parkinson has been on the other end.
Birmingham City beat Wrexham to summer signings according to Parkinson, but he will certainly be glad to have signed Brunt.
The defender had to wait a while for his chance but has really taken it, showing some classy displays even on the left side of defence.
Tall, physical, quick and possessing quality on the ball, Brunt has everything a manager could want in a centre back for a back three.
Brunt has been hailed by Mia Roberts with his performances already turning him into a fan favourite.
Brunt is only 24 too, so Wrexham will be looking for him to keep developing and become a key player at the STōK Cae Ras for years to come.
