Dodgers trade Gavin Lux to Reds: Sources - The Athletic

Yankees Could Still Acquire $27 Million Infielder After Reds Trade For Gavin Lux

On Monday night, ESPN’s Jeff Passan dropped the bombshell report that the Los Angeles Dodgers would be trading infielder Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds. In return, the Dodgers are reportedly receiving outfield prospect Mike Sirota and a competitive balance pick.

Lux will head to Cincinnati to join Elly De La Cruz and manager Terry Francona as the Reds attempt to steal the National League Central.

Well, Lux might be headed to Cincinnati.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden reported the same news as Passan, but attached to it, he noted the Reds could be moving Lux before he even gets settled in.

“The Dodgers, Reds trade is one for one. Gavin Lux to the Reds for outfielder Mike Sorota. There is a chance that Lux gets spun to the (New York) Yankees so stay tuned,” Bowden wrote in a post to Twiter/X on Monday night.

Bowden followed that up by clarifying he had been informed the Reds are not planning to move Lux at this point in time.

The New York Yankees were looked at as one of the favorites to land Lux, in my eyes, before the infielder was dealt to the Reds. Lux would fill a need for the Bronx Bombers and he would do so affordably, which is very important considering the expensive offseason New York has had.

For the Reds to give him up at this point, they would need to acquire big-league talent. After bringing in Francona, the Reds’ window to win opened and every move Cincinnati has made has been to win. Trading for Lux is another win-now move.

The Yankees could part ways with outfield prospect Everson Pereria to acquire Lux. Pereria would fill a much bigger hole in Cincinnati, though he’s much less established than the aforementioned Lux.

As for now, Lux is headed to Cincinnati and the Yankees will need to look elsewhere to fill out their infield.
