Suspended for two games – after attack on helmetless player

Skellef teås’ Rickard Hugg is suspended for two games
after attacking Timrås’ Oliver Kapanen , causing the Finn to fall to the ice without a helmet.

Timrå defeated Skellefteå 4–1 on Saturday. When they took a 3–1 lead, a fight broke out after Oliver Kapanen tackled Oscar Lindberg.

The tackle was the start of a commotion that ended with several players attacking each other, including Rickard Hugg and Oliver Kapanen. After tearing off Oliver Kapanen’s helmet, Rickard Hugg then threw Kapanen to the ice. He was injured and now it is clear that the Skellefteå star will be suspended for two games.

The disciplinary committee’s decision states that “Kapanen falls backwards carelessly with a Skellefteå player on top of him and hits the back of his head on the ice without being able to protect himself.”

The matches Hugg misses are against Brynäs and Växjö.

Taking action – reporting threats to the police: “Will never be allowed”

On Sunday, Leksands IF announced on its website that it had filed a police report after receiving comments on social media.
It also said it was changing its social media strategy to counter this.
“While everyone has the right to their own opinions about our beloved club, we will never allow harassment or threats against individuals,” acting club director Peter Wiklund told the club’s website.

Leksand’s season has been turbulent. Negative headlines about the financial situation have surrounded the atmosphere around the club. This at the same time as the results have been shaky.

On Saturday, the team lost to league leaders Färjestad away 5–2. The team is now tenth in the table and six points short of the qualifying spot held by HV71.

“We will never allow that”

But now the association has been hit by further troubles. On Sunday, it was announced that there had been threats on social media, which have now been reported to the police by Leksand.

– The climate on social media is sometimes very harsh and while everyone has the right to their opinions about our beloved club, we will never allow harassment or threats against individuals. In such incidents, we as employers have an obligation to act. That said, we urge all our supporters to maintain their great commitment but that we all help each other to keep it at a humane and tolerant level, says acting club director Peter Wiklund.

As a result, Leksand is changing its social media presence and will not publish match-related posts on Facebook and Instagram in regular posts, but instead in stories. X will also reduce its activity, they announced.
