David Moyes’ emotional return to Everton could already have an impact on the future of one ex-Rangers man.
And it could now also change things for a second.
The experienced and wily Scot was the man turned to in attempt to get the Toffees on an upward trajectory and away from relegation trouble.
The upturn in results hasn’t happened yet but they face another troubled side, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham, at home today and will hope to take all three points.
Nathan Patterson has been on the fringes under Sean Dyche but the Englishman still didn’t appear keen to let him leave in this window.
But Everton and Moyes are now being linked with right-backs Devyne Rensch and Milan van Ewijk (Goodison News).
That could free up Patterson to go out on loan or even permanently and Rangers fans would love to see a homecoming.
David Weir wanted at Everton
But just as Patterson could be moving on from Goodison Park, another Rangers man could be checking in.
Sun journalist Alan Nixon is reporting that Moyes wants David Weir, who is currently technical director at Brighton, to make the move to their Premier League rivals.
Like Moyes, there would be an emotional pull for the 54-year-old as he spent eight years as a player for the Toffees after moving from Hearts.
He also played under Moyes, so working for him again could be a factor.
It is reported that Everton’s new American owners want to shake things up behind the scenes and that recruitment chief Kevin Thelwell and chief scout Dan Purdy could face the chop.
